It makes me think of the little spinning wheel or arrow in the middle of the screen. It's thinking right, well maybe it's working but none the less we have a little time to kill.
What are you thinking about in these times? Life, the next task on your to do list, what's for dinner tonight? The truth is it probably isn't anything of any significance in your life at all.
I have found that when I actually take the time to sit down, uninterupted, and just simply think about things I am able to get a little clarity on the different issues in my life.
3 KEY STEPS to Thinking
1. NO DISTRACTIONS for this thinking time! Put the phone in airplane mode. YES! The world will keep spinning without you for 10, 20 or 30 minutes while you think! You need this time to focus on just simply thinking on a topic. Set a timer for the exact time you're allowing yourself for this thinking time.
2. BREATHE! Take 10 deep, full chest breaths to clear your mind and prepare to think for the time you have alloted. Breathe in slowly then breathe out slowly clearing your mind of any stresses or thoughts. Then pick a topic to focus on for the time you have alloted. Maybe it's a project your working on and need a little clarity to finish it up. Maybe you had some cross words with your spouse last night and you need to think through everything you said and the emotions that came up. How do I want to resolve this? How can I listen better? How can I understand her feelings in this area? Whatever the topic just allow the thoughts to come to you, don't analyze or judge them just accept the thoughts and...
3. JOURNAL! Write down the ideas and thoughts that come to mind. Just write, again don't judge them or discard them just acknowledge and write them down. You never know what may come out of this time. Thinking and writing it down gives life to these thoughts and they will begin to grow and flourish to help in resolving the issues you may be up against.
Side note to remember is this should become a habit. Something you do daily just to get things out fo your head. Maybe it's in the morning or evening before or after work. Just take 5 or 10 minutes to start with and be patient with it. The first few times may not flow well but over time it will begin to payoff, I promise.
In my experience, this time has become very worthwhile for allowing more great ideas to materialize for my business, marriage and life.
